Shillong: Conrad K Sangma on Saturday said that the National People’s party (NPP) is a party which has a specific vision, goal and purpose but other political parties would not be able to tell you their purpose for fighting election.

“NPP fights for the indigenous people, for the tribal. The party is here to give voice to different religious minorities, to give voice to the people of northeast. Northeast has never had a political party that has shown its willingness to give its voice,” Conrad said.

The Chief Minister who is also NPP’s, National President was speaking at a function to welcome founder of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF), Pynshngain N Syiem in Mawsynram.

He also said that Syiem joined the NPP because he believes that the party will give voice to the people of Mawsynram constituency, to the people of the state and the people of entire northeast.

“It is this belief, this vision that has brought us together and I assure that we will continue to fight for everyone,” Conrad said.

Hitting at the Congress in the party, the NPP national president said, there is a lot of problem in the party, saying that a lot of their leaders and workers are dissatisfied with the way the party is functioning.

“During the last term you may be aware that PN Syiem and Dr Mukul Sangma could not see eye to eye. They were from the same party but they could not work together because Congress had a very dictatorial style,” Conrad said.

The function was attended by, Advisor to the MDA Government and former Congress leader, Dr DD Lapang, NPP Meghalaya state president, W Kharlukhi besides other senior functionaries of the NPP.
