Guwahati: At a time when there are several reports of #MeToo movement going viral in social media, a woman police official from Assam now claimed that she is one of the survivors of sexual harassment at the workplace.
The woman police officer, Leena Doley who is presently posted as the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Majuli in her Facebook post claimed that on March of 2012, one of her seniors, Mukesh Agrawal, IPS, IGP (L), Assam, now ADGP (L&O), Assam, Guwahati, offered to take her on a holiday with him for the efficient work she had done. As per a report, the incident happened six years back.
She further mentioned that although she refused and took to the natural course of justice. “I had no intention of taking a holiday with my boss, thus, I said so to my organisation boss - the DGP, Assam,” Leena wrote in her Facebook post.
It may be mentioned that the woman police officer also filed a complaint against the senior police officer Mukesh Agarwala.
What is more shocking into the incident is that after six months of Doley filing an official complaint about the incident, her husband committed suicide.
Following which, the Enquiry Officer, Ms Emily Choudhury, IAS, the then Additional Chief Secretary, Assam, came to her house on the first day to assure her that it was not because of the complaint that her husband killed himself. The enquiry procedures had not started till then.
She further mentioned in the post that her case was dismissed because of a misunderstanding, although the perpetrator (Mukesh Agarwal) himself had admitted to the fact.
Also, the wife of the perpetrator (Mukesh Agarwal) had filed a defamation suit against her for supposedly defaming her husband.
Meanwhile, she filed a revision petition against the matter in the Gauhati High Court and won the case in the High Court.
“But I received no justice for the complaint I filed. The personal loss of my husband committing suicide is on a different ground. But I lost. My case and my husband and the father of my then 2 year old and six year old children. And that is what I remember. That the Enquiry Committee concluded that it was a misunderstanding even when the perpetrator himself admitted to the fact of the allegation made by me,” she states further in the Facebook post.
