Assam's golden sprinter in a historic moment received Arjuna Award from President of India Ram Nath Kovind at an annual National Sports Awards ceremony on Tuesday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The golden girl of Assam was among the 20 recipients of the prestigious Arjuna award.
After this glorious moment of success Hima Das on social media platform, Twitter said that it was a proud moment for her to receive the prestigious award from the President of the country. She besides thanked her parents and all her well-wishers for showing love and support.
Hima Das in her tweet wrote, “It is a proud moment for me receiving ARJUN AWARD from honorable President of India Mr Ram Nath Kovind at President House. Thanks to my Maa, Deuta coach & my dear well-wishers."
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal congratulated Hima Das for her this supreme achievement as she was honoured with prestigious the Arjuna Award.
Sonowal on his Twitter handle on Tuesday stated: “Congratulations on receiving the Arjuna Awards. This is a huge honour for Hima’s talents and great motivator to all budding sportspersons.”
Das, along with M. R. Poovamma, Sarita Gayakwad and V. K. Vismayawon clinched the gold medal for India in Women’s 4 × 400 metres relay on 30 August 2018, at Asian Games 2018 Jakarta.
In 2018 Das also became the first Indian athlete to bag a gold medal in a track event at the IAAF World U20 Championships.
