SHILLONG, April 8: Neil Herbert Nongkynrih has been conferred the “Padma Shri Award” from the President of India, Prab Mukherjee at the Durbar Hall, of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on Wednesday.
Neil Nongkynrih is known for his contribution towards promoting Music, Art and Culture of the country. Nongkynrih is the founder of Shillong Chamber Choir and taking his music both tiolly and intertiolly, has been recognized today by the Government of India and Padma Shri Award conferred on him by the President of India. “It is the greatest sense of pride for the North East States with specially emphasis on the state of Meghalaya,” a statement from the Shillong Chamber Choir said today.
According to the statement, he has accepted this award with greatest humility and thanked his family, friends and supporters from the northeast states and also his fans from all over the country. “Its a historic day for all members of the Shillong Chamber Choir and they are humbled,” the statement added.
