No Financial Aid provided to S.P.Os who died while providing service in Dima Hasao: AASPOWA

Guwahati: The All Assam Special Police Officer Welfare Association (AASPOWA) on Friday claimed that Government of Assam had failed to provide financial aid to martyred police jawans of the Special Police Officer (SPO) who were being appointed at the border sectors of Dima Hasao District in the year 2008.

Addressing the media, AASPOWA, President, Aninda Rabha claimed that the maximum of the S.P.O jawans in the hill sectors of the then North Cachar Hills District now Dima Hasao District had lost their lives after a major retaliation with the militants of DHD(J) and NSCN outlawed factions.

The body also informed that several other jawans died due to Bullet Injuries, Malaria, Jaundice and other health-related issues. Those identified martyred jawans are namely Munindra Baglary (Udalguri), Bishehwar Bora (Lakhimpur), Lalit Borgohain (Lakhimpur), Raju Patar (Morigaon), Sukhreshwar Nath (Goalpara), Kamini Khaklari (Karbi Anglong), Brajen Bora (Lakhimpur), Nil Deka (Darrang), Parag Buragohain (Tinsukia).

AASPOWA further claimed that the above mentioned SPO jawans have been professionally trained alike the Indian Army and were appointed in sectors of Dima Hasao along with Assam-Nagaland border areas and were engaged in various operations conducted under the aegis of the police administration.

It may also be mentioned that there are few more SPO jawans who are living their lives on wheelchairs. "The Government of Assam had sanctioned only Rs 5 lakh as ex-gratia amount to these jawans so far," said Aninda Rabha.

Furthermore, the body urged the Government of Assam to provide financial aids of the martyred jawans of SPO whose family members who are living an unfortunate and tragic life.
