Itanagar: Tirap district Deputy Commissioner PN Thungon has directed owners of all petrol pumps not to issue petrol to bike riders approaching without protective helmets and display a ‘No helmet, no fuel’ sign board in the pump and strictly comply with the July 1 order, which was issued as many riders do not use helmets.

Thungon becomes first among 26 DCs of the state to make use of helmet mandatory by the bikers. He is followed by Capital Complex DC Vikram Singh Malik, who concerned over rising casualties in two-wheeler accidents on road for not using helmets, has issued an order that no petrol pump operator within Capital Complex jurisdiction shall provide petrol to any two-wheeler rider not wearing helmet w.e.f July 20 next.

He has also asked SP (traffic) to launch campaign about this as a precursor and intensify issue challan to offenders. It would be worth mentioning here that Biswanth district DC and neighbouring Assam, had issued such order on February 2 this year and repeated it again on June 29 last for non compliance.
