TINSUKIA, March 16: The tiol School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi under its extension programme organized a three-day festival of tribal dance, music and theatre titled Adivasi Adi Bimb which began on Thursday at the sprawling Gottong Playground, Guijan Tinsukia. Organized in collaboration with Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam, the programme will witness cultural performances of various ethnic groups of Northeast India.
The iugural programme was chaired by Tinsukia MLA Sanjay Kishan while Chabua MLA Binode Hazarika graced the occasion as chief guest. In his keynote address, Ratan Thiyam, tiol School of Drama Society, said Adivasi Adi Bimb was a festival that depicted the cultural attributes of tribal art, lifestyle and the impact on their life, besides documentation and interaction. He stated that this programme was hoisted for the first time in Northeast India with the sole objective to explore diverse cultural ethnicity of the region in terms of growth and development. The NSD had organized such programmes in tribal belts of India like Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Birbhum in West Bengal, and Maharashtra, Thiyam said. The tribal troupes from communities belonging to seven States are participating in the event.
