Post Demonetization: Rs 5000 would be credited in bank accounts of each Tea Garden employee of Assam

Guwahati: To incentivize the digitization of the economy of the Tea Garden employees, the state government had announced that Rs 5000 would be credited to the bank accounts of each Tea Garden employee who had opened their Bank accounts immediately post-demonetization.

Stating this State Finance Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that the state government accordingly launched the 'Chah Bagicha Dhan Puraskar Mela', through which the first tranche of Rs 2500 through Direct Benefit Transfer was transferred to each of the 7,21,485 bank accounts of Tea Garden workers across 752 Tea Gardens spread over 26 districts of Assam involving a sum of Rs 182.00 crores for Phase-I.

Also, the state government has approved for release of Phase-II of 'Chah Bagicha Dhan Puraskar Scheme' where all the beneficiaries covered during Phase-I will receive the second installment of Rs 2500 in their bank accounts. It may be also be mentioned that the state government has decided to implement the 2nd Phase during January 2019, informed Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Further, it has been decided that in case, if for any reason such as KYC etc the beneficiaries who were left out from Phase-I, Government of Assam will release at Rs 5000 under Phase-II.

For those Tea garden workers who were not part of the original list of the beneficiaries (i.e Phase-I), but were later found to be eligible as per the guidelines of the scheme, Government of Assam will sanction Rs 5000 each to the workers.

The workers who have opened accounts before demonetization but due to various reasons were left out of the Phase-I, Government of Assam will also sanction a total of Rs 5000 each to the workers.
