Primary Teachers Protest Supporting Their Rights

GUWAHATI: Assam State Primary Teachers Association (ASPTA) has posted a few demands towards the government in view of which they held a conference on Friday in Lokhra, Guwahati. More than hundreds of primary school teachers were present in the meeting and all primary schools remained closed. The conference was held to discuss and re-raise their demands before the government.

ASPTA said, “The present government has been denying our rights since the very beginning. After this conference, if the government does not pay attention to our cause, then we will have to resort to the non-corporation program from 4 to 6 February.”

ASPTA General Secretary Ratul Chandra Goswami discussing the demands said, “We urge the government to bring some changes in the existing norms of running primary schools in the state. The post of headmaster should exist in primary schools and he should receive grade payment according to the seven pay commission, which is our first demand.” “We urge the government to pay heed to our demands which includes grade pay of Rs 8,700 to be returned to graduate trainee teachers, continuation of the system of promotion, post of contractual teachers to be made regular, security of teachers and employees job profile, arrears to be released, cancellation of new pension rule and implementation of the old pension rule, all non-provincial primary schools to be made provincial, among others”, Goswami added.
