Naharkotiya: The Naharkatiya College Students’ Union burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on the main road in front of the college. Around 200 students took part in the protest. The students shouted various slogans against the Chief Minister and demanding cancellation of the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019. They said that the government would have to withdraw the controversial Bill. If not, the students would show their unity. They vouched to continue their agitation till the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 was cancelled.

GAURISAGAR: The Senior Citizen Forum, Charing in Sivasagar district on Friday took out a protest rally against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. A good number of octogenarians took part in the protest programme. Later a protest meeting was held where social worker Srimanta Dutta strongly criticized the Chief Minister of Assam for his silence. In the protest programme, noted educationist Tuwaram Khanikor urged upon the people to fight unitedly.

SARUPATHAR: The Congress members of Sarupathar block under Dhansiri Subdivision in Golaghat district staged a road blockade for an hour in front of the Congress office at Sarupathar on Friday in protest against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019. The demonstrators also burnt effigies of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and warned the BJP-led Assam government not to indulge in anti-people activities.

Meanwhile, the protesters demanded immediate withdrawal of the highly controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019. Almost 150 protesters shouted various slogans against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. The activist also threatened that there should be no tinkering with Assam accord. The illegal Bangladeshis should not migrate to India.
