TINSUKIA, Oct 4: State Health and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday inspected the site of the proposed Tinsukia Medical College in Makum, about 9 km from Tinsukia town. Addressing the media persons at the site, the minister declared that Rs 250 crore had been earmarked for the proposed medical college stretched over a sprawling area of 200 bighas of land. He announced further that the medical college would be completed within two-and-a half years while the tender of the work had already been flouted.
The Polytechnic Institute building located close to the medical college site, which was abandoned few years ago, would be made functiol from the next academic year with the opening of 50 streams, the minister stated. Informing in detail his other day-long programme in the district, Sarma stated that he would lay the foundation stone of the extended project of 100-bedded sub-divisiol civil hospital at Chapakhowa in Sadiya followed by a visit to Sadiya College where he would explore the possibility of opening science stream. The minister would also lay the foundation stone of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Adarsha Mahavidyalaya at Kakopathar and 10-bedded model hospital at Bandharkhati, Tongoand Kordoiguri before leaving Tinsukia district.
