Sikkim: CM Instructs Bureaucrats to Implement Pending Policies with Immediate Effect

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister of Sikkim Pawan Kumar Chamling had instructed the Home department of the state to implement the government's earlier policy decisions on empowering non-Sikkimese girls married to local persons with local rights. He also instructed to have the government signboards in English, Devanagari and local language of the particular area.

Addressing the Children's Day Function at Chintan Bhawan in Gangtok, the CM stressed that the state government's decision of 2014 to confer local rights and Certificate of Insurance (CoI) to all the girls from outside the state who have married the boys from the state.

In his speech, Chamling said, that his Government had accepted in Principle wherein the daughters-in-law get immediately CoI and all the local rights but so far it has not yet been implemented in the state

He instructed the Home department of the state to enforce the policy decision making the required amendments with immediate effect so that the women do not face any discrimination.

Stating that there should be no gender discrimination in the state, Chamling said that his government had already taken a decision where the daughters-in-law of the state can apply for government jobs and purchase lands in the state.

Highlighting the policy decisions undertaken by his government the CM said, his Government have also taken a policy decision for 90% local employment in private companies, pharma factories and power projects operating in Sikkim, and directed the concerned authorities to ensure proper implementation of this policy.

Chamling further said about his government's decision of all the signboards in the state would be in English, Devanagari script and local language of the area where the signboard is placed.

In his speech, the CM also said that the administration in the state should be democratic instead of being personalised.

While advising the Bureaucrats of the state not to unnecessarily trouble the public instead assist them in availing the benefits of various government policies in the state, Chamling said, "There is an existing government in the die-in harness policy to give government employment to a dependent of a government employee who expires while in service. such employment applications should be handled at the offices but the applicants are unnecessarily told to get a recommendation from the CM and in the process of getting an appointment with the CM, valuable time is wasted...when the things are possible at your end, do it...do not trouble the public."
