Tawang District Congress Committee alleges MLA Tsering Tashi’s wife Nima Drema of voting twice

Itanagar: The Tawang District Congress Committee (DCC) has written to the Election Commission of India, alleging that Nima Drema, wife of sitting MLA and BJP candidate from Lumla constituency Tsering Tashi, voted twice in the recent elections. In a representation to the chief election commissioner, the DCC claimed that Drema had cast her vote at the Namazing polling station under the Mukto assembly constituency, as well as at the Bomba polling station under the Tawang assembly constituency, on April 11. Seeking immediate review of the allegation, and action as needed, the DCC claimed that “the marked copy of the electoral rolls of the two polling stations and her signatures on the voting lists can verify that she has utilized both the voter ID cards by double-voting on 11 April, 2019.”

However, the MLA, Tsering Tashi, outright rejected the allegation, and termed it “a negative political propaganda.” Had there been any apprehension of foul play during the voting process, the Congress should have immediately placed a complaint with the polling officials present there, instead of raising a negative political campaign after the results, he said.

Tashi also reminded the Congress that he won the election with a large margin of 3,331 votes, and that there was no reason for him to “engage in any such unlawful tactics.”
