Tension brews over alleged love jihad

MARGHERITA, July 3: Tension prevails in Margherita region when a case of love jihad has come to light. According to sources, Bittu Ali, a Muslim youth of Powai area, allegedly fell in love with Tulsi Das, a Hindu girl of Parbotia in Tinsukia by changing his me a month ago and then  eloped with the girl. However, due to family problems, the girl allegedly committed suicide on Saturday by hanging herself in her husband’s house.

When Bittu Ali took her body to perform the last rites, the Margherita Muslim Committee declined permission to bury the body in the graveyard as Bittu Ali did not possess marriage certificate. Bittu took her body to the crematorium ground but activists of Hindu Jagaran Manch and RSS allegedly assaulted him. Margherita Police brought the situation under control and it was decided before members of Hindu Jagaran Manch, RSS, Hindu community people and Muslim community people that the girl should be buried as per Islamic law.

 Meanwhile, ba Kanta Chetia, vice-president of Hindu Jagaran Manch State Committee, said that love jihad had become a concern. He said that the police should have conducted post-mortem. He demanded a probe into the death of the girl
