GUWAHATI: Tezpur University professor Dr. Smriti Kumar Sinha delivered the first Dr. Kali Prasad Sinha Memorial Lecture organized at Silchar College on the outskirts of Silchar on January 7. The lecture was organized by the Bishnupriya Manipuri Research Association and the function was presided over by Professor (Dr.) Prabhat Kumar Sinha.

The TU professor highlighted the contribution of Prof. Kali Prasad Sinha in linguistics, including the classification of the Bishnupriya Manipuri language among the Indo-Aryan languages. He delved deep into Bishnupriya Manipuri orthography, phonology, morphology and grammar with special stress on some of the most debated ones in the Bishnupriya Manipuri linguistic community.

The lecture turned brainstorming meet with many of the scholars taking part in the question-and-answer session. Dr Harendra Sinha from Mizoram, Dr. Manash Sinha, Dr. Dhriti Rajkumar, poet Champalal Sinha, Sudipta Sinha and others. There were differences in opinion among the scholars on compound tenses, their root verbs and their markers, besides compound verbs. However, some of the scholars could make the very concept of all these critical elements in the grammar of Bishnupriya Manipuri and other Indo-Aryan languages.

In his presidential speech, Dr. Prabhat Kumar Sinha literary iced on the cake with an eloquent speech on the multi-faceted talents and contributions of Dr. KP Sinha.
