Shillong, July 30: The North East Students Organization (NESO) is desirous that the National Registration of Citizens (NRC) be extended to the other states of the region. Speaking to The Sentinel on Monday, the NESO chairman Samuel Jyrwa said that the NRC is one of the demands after the Assam Accord and multiple interventions. Now we desire that the NRC should be extended to all the North-eastern states.”

He said, “The effect of illegal immigration is being felt in Assam and such exercise is imperative to determine the migrant population in other parts of the region.” “We have seen the quantum in Assam and this should not pilferage to the other states,” stated the NESO chairman banking that the 1971 base year should be the time table for all immigrants into the region.
