Tough contest between BJP and Congress in Sivasagar

Joysagar: The counting of votes for the panchayat polls was conducted by the Sivasagar district administration on Wednesday at the Sivasagar Government Higher Secondary School. It was a tough contest between the BJP and the Congress.

The AGP has contested alone and because of no alliance with the ruling BJP, the regional party in some panchayats showed better result but it could only attain the third position while the ruling BJP won the overall election. Out of total 102 wards of gaon panchayats, the BJP candidates won in 57 seats while the Congress won in 30 seats and the AGP occupied only 15 seats.

In Rangpur GP of Rudrasagar (Joysagar), the BJP won 8 seats and the Congress won 3 seats while AGP could not win any seat. In the Desangmukh GP, the BJP-2, Cong-7, AGP-0, in the Thawra Panidehing, BJP-6, Cong-2, AGP-0, in Palengi, the BJP-9, Cong-1, AGP-0, in Amguri GP, BJP-6, AGP-3, Cong-0, in Pengera GP, BJP-1, Cong-5, AGP-4, in Panidehing West, BJP-8, Cong-2, AGP-0, in the Nemuguri GP, BJP-5, Cong-5, AGP-0, in Gargaon GP, BJP-5, Cong-5, in the Simaluguri GP, Cong-8, BJP-2, AGP-0, CPI-1, in Diksu GP, BJP-3, Cong-1 and AGP-6, in Mumaitamuli GP, BJP-1, Cong-1, AGP-5, CPI-1.

In the Nazira Zila Parishad, the Congress won the seat while the Amguri Zila Parishad was won by the AGP and the Sivasagar Zila Parishad was won by the BJP. In Charaideo, the Borduba GP, the Kakotibari GP, Salapathar GP, Lonpotia GP, Mahmora, Borhat, Bhojo, Sapekhati and Sonari GP was occupied by the BJP while in Charaideo, the Congress won the second highest number of seats and the regional AGP failed to show any achievement in the district.

In Sivasagar, the Nagar Mahal panchayat, the Panbecha GP, the Konwarpur GP, the Shantipur GP and the Rangpur town GP were won by the Congress while the ruling BJP won the second highest number of seats but the AGP totally failed to offer any contest. The BJP managed to wrestle out the Sivasagar Zila Parishad seat from the Congress. The counting was conducted in a peaceful manner.
