Tourist Police, Arunachal Suraksha app launched

Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Police on Friday added another feather to its cap with the launch of Arunachal Pradesh Tourist Police and the Arunachal Suraksha app to help the citizens during emergencies.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu launched the Tourist Police and app in a function held at Dorjee Khandu Convention Centre here as part of the 46th Raising Day celebration of the Arunachal Pradesh Police which began on Friday and would culminate on November 8 next.

Launching the app, Khandu said that it is an effort under Prime Minister’s Digital India initiative to make the state police more efficient in its functioning.

“The app will drastically decrease the crime rate in the state and the tourists visiting the state will feel secured with the Toursit police,” Khandu said adding, the state government is taking all-out measures to woo tourists to the state through several initiatives.

“The inflow of tourist to the state since 2011 has increased significantly with nine lakh tourist, both domestic and international being recorded annually in the state in the last several years,” the chief minister added.

Khandu informed that the ‘Police Unit’ is being launched in 7 districts equipped with specially designed Scorpio vehicle. These units are currently deployed in Tawang, Itanagar, Ziro, Roing, Pasighat, Namsai and Pangsau Pass.

The chief minister said he hopes that the tourist police unit will discharge their duty effectively and with dedication. He said the tourist police personnel are trained in soft skills, communication skills and equipped with knowledge of the tourist places.
