GORESWAR, July 20: With a view to promoting water rafting in Assam, a state level week long water rafting programme was organized by Assam Mountaineering and Adventure Institute under the aegis of sports and youth welfare department of the Assam government from July 12 at Bogamati. On Wednesday the training programme concluded.
Altogether 36 participants attended the training camp under the supervision of Tarun Saikia, the first everest winner of Assam. Barang Talang of Arunachal Pradesh took part in the programme as the chief training master with 9 other teachers who taught the students how to raft in water and the technical procedure of safety in water. It may be mentioned here that the Sports and Youth Welfare department of the Assam government has arranged for such project for the first time in Assam. A closing ceremony was held on Wednesday at Uparkhuti -Bhulajhar High school where the training camp was set up temporarily. The participants were given a certificate each in the programme.
