FROM A CORRESPONDENT
Agartala, Oct 16: Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee has been reconstituted to revitalise the party which has suffered serious setback recently in the state following desertion of six party MLAs and large number of activists including office bearers at different levels.
Birajit Sinha, MLA, has been retained as president of the TPCC while the Royal scion Pradyut Bikram Kishor Debbarman has been inducted as working president in the reconstituted committee putting all speculation about his joining BJP into rest.
Apart from the deserters the most notable drop out from the newly constituted committee is the former Chief Minister Samir Ranjan Barman, father of the former leader of the opposition Sudip Roy Barman who led the revolt in the party and joined Trimool Congress.
Samir Ranjan Barman has neither deserted the Congress nor announced joining in any other party but was figured on the dais of a Trimool Congress meeting at Astabal Maidan on August 9 addressed by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
This mysterious movement of Barman has caused confusion in the party and a notice has recently been issued to his asking to show cause why discipliry action will not be taken against him. Barman is yet to respond to the notice.
The newly constituted committee has 13 vice president, 19 general secretaries, 35 secretaries, 66 executive member apart from 16 special invitees. Formation of this jumbo committee clearly indicates an attempt to accommodate maximum number of party leaders and to give maximum representation of all factions.
