Unidentified Miscreants Allegedly Throw Mobil inside Water Reservoir in Meghalaya

Shillong: In a sensational incident, few unidentified miscreants allegedly threw Mobil oil inside water reservoir of Nongkseh on Monday morning hours, thus, creating a fear among the locals about potential health risk to its people in the area after the water was released in the area from the reservoir unknowingly in the morning hours.

As per a media report, the village headman of Nongkseh, AS Thangkhiew lodged an FIR at Jhalupara Police Outpost stating that the plumber who went to close the tap at 8 am, found out that the water pouring out of it was dirty and mixed with unidentified Mobil oil-like substance in it.

Thangkhiew urging for an investigation into the matter had further stated that there will be no water supply in the region until water filters with 40,000 to 50,000-litre capacity get cleaned up properly.

It may be mentioned that at least 330 households were affected due to the release of the Mobil mixed water from the reservoir.

Meanwhile, local MLA and a state Cabinet Minister, Hamlet Dohling said, “The water looks unfit for consumption. Moreover, the water will be cleaned today as it is a matter of life and death for the people as the Mobil oil that was thrown into the water increases health risks.”

Also, condemning the miscreants behind the act, he added, “It is difficult to suspect anyone. Who is this spoilt brat making all this nonsense? We have requested the police to interrogate the matter.”

Furthermore, MLA Dohling had directed PHE to conduct all the necessary tests to check whether the water in the region is safe to drink or not, he also instructed PHE officials to conduct tests in all water sources coming to Lummawbah, Lawsohtun, Umlyngka, Shillong areas too.
