Vector-Borne Diseases Still Prevalent in Guwahati

GUWAHATI, Sept 4: This year, till the month of September, the Kamrup Metro Health Services has confirmed 22 positive cases of Dengue out of 970 samples tested. However, no death cases have been reported so far. On the other hand, two persons have died of Japanese Encephalitis so far while 10 persons were confirmed positive out of 78 samples tested. Similarly, 5 persons were confirmed positive out of 41,709 samples tested for Malaria. Talking to The Sentinel on Tuesday, Joint Director of Health Services, Kamrup (Metro) Dr Ganesh Saikia highlighted that only one has been tested positive for Chikungunya at Sonapur. Saikia further said that the Dengue cases seasonally outbreaks in the months of October, November and December while Japanese Encephalitis outbreaks in the months of June, July and August. Notably, in 2017, Kamrup Metro Health Services confirmed as high as 4,000 persons positive with Dengue.
