Itagar, Sept 15: After more than 20 days of disruption in surface communication to remote Anjaw district following a landslide at Tiding, the 48 BRTF Task Force filly restored the road for vehicular movement despite various hurdles. The entire formation of the road was completely washed away resulting in innumerable hardship to the people of the district including Armed Forces. The massive restoration work could have taken at least a month. However, the indomitable challenge taken by the BRTF personnel and officials reinstated the road within record 15 days time. Owing to quantum of road damage, Anjaw DC Nyabin Ete and Hayuliang ADC B Tawsik also visited the point and built a temporary potter track to transship ration and other essential commodities. 48 BRTF Commandant Colonel C Rajshekar persolly visited the site to supervise the work for early restoration of the road as heavy machineries and major work forces were pressed at the site to restore the blockade. As the location is said to be the worst hit landslide prone area, both machineries and work force were camped at the point to clear the road for smooth movement of vehicles, said the sources.

“The hill shrouded with loose soil and boulders posed tremendous threat and may cause frequent blockade. The entire hill was sliding down and we did not have an option to change the road alignment. It was a herculean task for our force to fight with this kind of topography,” informed the Commandant. “Despite heavy rain and tough condition our personnel has successfully done it,” he added.

Anjaw, bordering Chi requires an all weather road to facilitate easy movement of armed forces to the sensitive border post but unfortutely the poor road condition has posed much inconvenience to both the Army and civilians.
