Mumbai: The news of a possible rift between the two star players of the Indian Cricket team, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma has surfaced the online and offline news platforms. At a time when India’s defeat in the World Cup Semis and exit from the competition has been bothering and saddening the fans of the team to an unexplainable limit, the new update on the split of opinions and mindsets between Kohli and Sharma has left fans in awe and shock.
The possibility of a tussle between the two players can also be guessed from Rohit Sharma’s early and sole return to his country without accompanying or waiting for the rest of the teammates. As per the news, the BCCI had failed in arranging tickets for the team to come back to Indian for which the players had to stay in England till Sunday. But Rohit Sharma was seen returning prior to the team accompanying his wife and daughter a day ahead of others.
Now that the news of rift between the two is prominent, BCCI might take a decision of resolving the issue by splitting the captaincy between the two. As stated by a BCCI official, "This would be the right time for Rohit to take over the mantle of the captaincy in the 50-over format. There has been immense support to the present captain and the management and it is time to plan ahead for the next World Cup and for that the existing ideas and plans need a fresh look. We all know some areas need a relook. Rohit would be the right man for the job."
Rohit, with his last best performance in the World Cup, has been an apple of the eye of the BCCI at present and very well-deserving; Sharma certainly has the caliber to lead a team under him. Rohit has, however, won the Golden Bat for being the highest run-getter in the Cricket World Cup. He registered a total of 648-runs that consists of five centuries
