MANGALDAI: “Our beautiful State of Assam is highly gifted by mother nature but we have failed to make proper utilization of these gifts and this is the reason why the unemployment problem has crippled our society. It is high time to create work culture among the youths and we all must concentrate on agriculture, horticulture and fish farming to prosper in individual life as well as to make our State more enriched,” said ideal and progressive fish farmer of the State, Amal Chandra Medhi of Nalbari district to the young generation. He was taking part in a day-long workshop-cum-group discussion on fish farming adopting the scientific technology organized by ‘Shan Agri Orchard’ at Deomornoi HS School.

A good number of participants coming from different parts of the district and two from Sonitpur district, despite adverse weather, took part in the workshop with tremendous enthusiasm. “Darrang district is enriched with a total of about 26,000 small and large water bodies in the form of individual and public pond, beels and these water bodies can easily be transformed into ideal fisheries on community basis. It is very unfortunate that in spite these resources we are still depending on the fish imported from other States,” said progressive fish farmer Amal Chandra Medhi who already has earned a reputation for his achievements in fish farming. Taking part in the workshop as the resource person, he imparted all required information and technologies on fish farming. Mediaperson Bhargab Kumar Das also took part in the workshop and appreciated the initiative of avian farmer Kushal Deka in organizing the workshop.
