11 Japanese Encephalitis Cases Detected in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: As many as 11 cases of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) have been detected in Arunachal Pradesh with five positive cases have been reported in East Siang district alone so far, health officials informed here on Monday.

A total three cases have been reported in Papum Pare district while Upper Subansiri, Kra Daadi and Lohit detected one case each. However, no death reported from anywhere in the state due to JE, Director of Health Services Dr M Lego informed.

“All the patients who have been tested positive with JE virus are under treatment in various hospitals of the state,” Dr Lego said.

Stating that there is no cause of alarm, the director added that the department of health & Family Welfare has initiated all preventive and other necessary steps to contain the disease from spreading further. He appealed the people to immediately report to the health officials in any case of fever with symptoms of stiffness of body and drowsiness for confirmation and treatment.

“The state government is seized of the matter and alive to the situation,” he said adding, all the district medical officers have been alerted to set up surveillance, IEC activities and anti-vector measures,” Dr Lego added.
