ITANAGAR: With 12 more police personnel testing COVID-19 positive on Tuesday, the number of cops affected by coronavirus in Naharlagun Police Station has risen to 30.

On Monday, nine personnel from the same police station were detected positive taking the tally to18. So far, 33 police personnel from Capital region have been tested COVID-19 positive; of them, three have been cured and discharged.

Capital SP Tumme Amo informed that the COVID-19 positive cases among the police personnel is rapidly increasing. He added that among the 12 new positive cases detected on Tuesday are a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), and two Sub-Inspectors.

"Though there is a shortage of manpower, I will make sure that every possible help is provided to the district administration to contain the pandemic," he said, adding that "the Department will ensure that the police personnel will return to work after they recover from the infection."

He further informed that many of the police personnel are stationed in hospitals, COVID Care Centre at Lekhi, hotel quarantine facility, containment zone areas and the dedicated makeshift COVID-19 hospital at Chimpu.

The SP also requested the public from the containment area to support the police and stay indoors while taking all precautions against the virus.
