ITANAGAR: The COVID-19 caseload of Arunachal Pradesh rose to 19,192 as the State reported its highest-ever single-day spike of 234 new cases in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, 138 people were cured of the disease on Tuesday, taking the total number of recoveries in the State to 17,501. The recovery rate stands at 91.19 per cent. The death toll remained at 59. The State now has 1,632 active cases, State Surveillance Officer DrLobsangJampa.
Meanwhile, the capital administration has imposed a night curfew from 9 pm to 5 am from May 1 to contain the spread of the disease. The Capital Complex region recorded the maximum number of fresh cases at 65, followed by Lower Dibang Valley (26), Anjaw (23), Lower Subansiri (19), Papumpare (18), East Siang (14) and Namsai at (12).
The Capital Complex region -- comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas -- has the highest number of active cases at 466, followed by Lower Dibang Valley (296), West Kameng (137) and Papumpare (126).
Altogether, 4,67,378 samples have been tested for COVID-19 including 3,827 on Tuesday, the official said. Of the new cases, 199 were detected through Rapid Antigen Tests, 18 through RT-PCR and 17 through the TrueNat method, he said, adding that 54 fresh patients have symptoms of the Coronavirus infection.
The government has deferred the roll-out of the immunisation drive for those in the age group of 18 to 44 years from May 1, as the State was facing some ''technical issues'', added DrJampa.
A total of 2,64,250 people have been inoculated since the beginning of the vaccination programme in January, said State Immunisation Officer DrDimongPadung.
GOVERNOR BATS FOR COVID-APPROPRIATE ACTIONS: Expressing concern on the spurt of COVID-19 cases in the State, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (retd) Dr B.D. Mishra on Wednesday emphasised on immediate appropriate actions to contain spread of the virus.
Chairing a review meeting on the pandemic scenario in the State with Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Health & Family Welfare Minister AloLibang at Raj Bhawan here, the Governor called for ways to strengthen the health infrastructure to meet the challenges.Stating that the COVID-19 is the biggest challenge to mankind in this century, he stressed that every citizen has to be motivated to take the utmost precautions to cope up with the threat.
Dr Mishra during the meeting proposed for a dedicated officer for the coordination among all stakeholders for supply of vaccines, oxygen provisions and other medical requirements.
He said that the Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police and District Medical Officers must be updated of all decisions and action plans to counter the pandemic, on a daily basis.
Speaking on the occasion, Khandu informed that eight oxygen plants are installed and 11 more are in the pipeline to meet the oxygen requirement in the State. He said that more oxygen cylinders are being procured for the purpose.
Earlier, Principal Secretary (Health) DrSharatChauhan briefed the Governor about the latest status of COVID-19 in the State.
