Itanagar: The Union Home Ministry has deployed 45 companies of central para military forces (CPMF) comprising BSF, CRPF, ITBP and SSB – besides 5,050 state police personnel to ensure free and fair elections in Arunachal Pradesh.
The Himalayan state is going to simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly polls on April 11 next.
State Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sunil Garg informed that a total of 45 companies of CPMF have been deployed while, maximum security personnel have been deployed in insurgency-hit Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts.
Garg added that new wireless sets have been procured and additional wireless sets have also been arranged from Delhi-based directorate of coordination police wireless (DCPW) for effective communication.
Mobile phones have been arranged where wireless sets don’t function for officials to pass on information through WhatsApp while dak runners would be pressed into service where both systems are not accessible.
Critical polling stations would be guarded by half to one section CPMF (eight personnel comprise one section) beside a state police to ensure normal voting. Moreover, one section of CPMF will be deployed in PBs to go for re-polling, Garg disclosed.
