ITANAGAR: In its endeavours to maintaining peace, tranquility and harmony in the region, the Changlang Battalion of Assam Rifles and the district police, during a two-day operation, apprehended five hardcore active cadres of the banned People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak, Red Army (PREPAK-RA) on Saturday, police said on Sunday.

Based on Intelligence inputs regarding movement of underground (UG) cadres, the Battalion and district police swiftly launched a specific operation in general area of Longkey Makangtong under Khimyong circle from June 3 last, Changlang Superintendent of Police (SP) Mihin Gambo informed.

The concerted efforts by the security forces led to apprehension of five hardcore active cadres of the banned outfit, who hail from Manipur.

The arrested rebels were identified as self-styled Sgt Majors K Tomba alias Liangamba Meitie (32), Mayamung Zimik alias Agamba (25) and Kh Naocha Singh alias Nokul (34), self-styled sergeant Abongcha alias Ashok (28) and self-styled corporal Salam Samlba alias Thouba (32).

The SP added that the cadres sneaked into the Indian territory from neighbouring Myanmar on Friday night. The apprehension has struck a major blow to the outfit organization and brought relief to the local population, the SP added.
