ITANAGAR: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) on Tuesday staged a statewide protest rally against the State government for inordinate delay in bringing out the draft proposal on the 'offspring' issue. The protest rally took place from Akashdeep to IG Park here

The federating units of the AAPSU also staged protest rallies across the State, which was followed by sit-in outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner in all districts of the State.

"AAPSU is organizing this protest rally and sit-in in all districts of the State to register strong protest against the State government's lackadaisical attitude towards the 'offspring' issue," said AAPSU general secretary Tobom Dai, addressing the gathering at IG Park here.

Dai said that the union had taken serious exception to the lackadaisical attitude, inordinate delay and delaying tactics adopted by the nodal agency and joint high power committee in coming out with a draft form of the proposed legislation on the 'offspring' issue as demanded by the union since 2018. The AAPSU general secretary urged the public to support the union while stating that the union would succeed in finding a logical conclusion to the issue.

Demanding for immediate release of preliminary draft on the issue by October 8, 2021, Dai said, "This protest rally is the first phase and if the government fails to address our demand, there will be many consequences for which the department of SJETA, the State government and the chairman of the high-power committee Alo Libang will be held responsible."
