ITANAGAR: The All Arunachal Pradesh Workers' Union (AAPWU) has welcomed the week-long lockdown and has appealed to all workers in Capital Complex and Doimukh to strictly adhere to the lockdown guidelines. At the same time, the Union has requested the State government not to transfer the contingency workers attached to the government departments in the State during this lockdown period.

"We appeal to the government departments concerned to refrain from transfer and posting of the contingency staff during this lockdown. Fresh transfers and postings will only increase their troubles further," said AAPWU general secretary (HQ) Tadar Dowa.

AAPWU president Taku Tagu in a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club here on Sunday, urged all workers to take the necessary precautions like wearing masks, maintaining social distance, using sanitizers and regular hand washing.

"We welcome the State government's decision to re-impose fresh lockdown to contain the spread of COVID-19. It is a good decision and AAPWU will extend full cooperation during this lockdown," Tagu said.

The AAPWU president, however, urged the departments like PHE, Power, Highway, Health, including Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) exempted from the purview of lockdown to provide protective equipment like masks, hand sanitizers, gloves, shoes etc., to the workers.

"Besides, providing proper protective equipment to the workers while on duty, these departments should also create awareness on COVID-19. Many workers are still unaware about the precautions they should take and therefore do not follow them," Tagu said, adding that the departments should take full responsibility for the safety of the workers.

Informing that AAPWU is affiliated to the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), Tadar said that the union will form an enquiry panel on its own to review the workers' grievances and approach the state government and departments for their redressal after the lockdown.
