ITANAGAR: A state delegation led by Agriculture Minister Tage Taki, who is on a study tour on oil palm in Indonesia, visited PT SOCFIN, Indonesia (SOCFINDO), which is a leading oil palm and rubber plantation company and role model for plantation development in the archipelago. At Sofindo, the team visited the tissue culture and DNA laboratory and seed production centre. Further, they are acquainted with nursery management, the oil palm harvesting process, identifying immature palms, and best cultivation practises like planting, manuring, replanting, composting, etc.

Later, the team visited the Palm Oil Mill (POM), PT SOCFINDO Kebun Bangun Bandar, Indonesia, to see the oil extraction process. Earlier, the delegates visited the seed production centre, FGV Agri Services SDN BHD, planting material unit, and TUN RAZAK Agriculture Research Centre, 26400 Bandar Jengka, Pahang, Malaysia. Taki is being accompanied by Agriculture Commissioner Bidol Tayeng, Director Anong Lego, officials from 3F Oil Palm Company, and a few farmers who have taken a lead role in oil palm plantations in Arunachal Pradesh.

Indonesia is the largest, and Malaysia is the second-largest oil palm-growing country in the world. The delegates had visited the state-of-the-art seed production centres and nurseries in these two countries during their weeklong visit.
