ITANAGAR: The All East Kameng District Students' Union (AEKDSU) has refuted the statement made by the 9th Chayangtajo MLA Hayeng Mangfi that the union is disrupting the work progress of the Seppa-Chayangtajo NEC road by filing an FIR against him and the officials of work executing department.

Speaking to reporters, AEKDSU President Chakang Yangda said that much FIR had been filed earlier in context to the alleged project scam but the construction work continued side by side. Moreover, the union filed the FIR before Hayeng Mangfi was elected as MLA of the constituency. So the statement by the MLA is uncalled and not justified.

He said the FIR against the officials of the department and the MLA was filed after the union came to know that it was on the direction of the MLA that the fund of Rs 3.41 crore was provided to a firm. Moreover, it was the department that without any fresh tender issued work orders as well as money to the firm.

"Therefore, besides blaming the union for disrupting the work progress, the MLA and the officials should follow the government norms in granting work orders to any firm. Hence, the union outright objects to the statement made by the MLA," he said.

Yangda also refuted the claims of the MLA over the union being politically backed to disrupt the ongoing work. He said that there is no political motive but is only voicing concern because of the corruption involved in it, which ultimately is delivering poor quality work, delay in work completion, and hence hampering the public of the district.

He rather questioned the integrity of the MLA over his non-participation when the union was spearheading the issue. Also, his absence when SP (SIC) visited the road stretch in Chayangtajo for ground verifications.

The union also refuted the claims made by the MLA that under his observation the much-delayed Poho-Sowo Bridge was later completed and subsequently inaugurated. Rather, alleged that the MLA only showed interest in the road when Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced an extra Rs. 20 cr fund for the completion of the road.

While welcoming the statement made by the MLA to issue an order to the department for fresh tender, Yangda said that the union always wanted every working procedure to go through the framed guidelines.

"Another concern of the union was the snail pace investigation by the SIC. Despite many resolutions adopted during various meetings with the 'Team East Kameng', the resolution was never enacted practically on the ground. Now, though it is a late decision by the MLA, the union welcomes the move and assures all time sought by him," he said.
