BORDUMSA: ''The women's wing of Milan Jyoti Mahila Samity of Podumoni Village in Arunachal's Bordumsa have been playing a pro-active role in combating the menace of drugs leading to the arrest of several local drug peddlers and addicts in July,''said Talo Jerang, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Bordumsa Subdivision.
He said this while addressing the team of daredevil anti-drug crusaders -- mostly comprising the women of three villages, namely Podumoni, Lalung, and Dirak Pather during an awareness talk held in the Podumoni commumity hall on Wednesday morning.
Among the dignitaries present on the occasion were the Chairman of 'RK Mossang Memorial Society Foundation', Komoli Mossang, Major Tushar Sinha of the 14 Assam Regiment, Bordumsa ZPM Khachang Maio, Bordumsa OC L. Kamchan, Forest Ranger Bordumsa and Gaon Buras. The brave ladies were feted for their immense contribution towards the combined ongoing battle against the menace of drugs in the area.
''Inspired by my personal life, I had resolved to work for the uplift of society through the NGO -- RK Mossang Memorial Society -- and, I am satisfied today while promoting the cause of education among the masses in various places of Arunachal Pradesh,'' said Komli Mossang, adding ''We are running a drug deaddiction centre in Bordumsa under the banner of my NGO.'' Komli Mossang also served the Women Commision of the State as its Chairperson from 2008 to 2011.
''I have no words to express my gratitude towards the achievmemt made by this all-women team of Milan Jyoti Mahila Samity,'' said the women leader who had also served as Cabinet Minister of Arunachal Pradesh earlier for a decade. ''I will always support the team,''she added.
Meanwhile, citing the fine examples of Singpho youths who had earlier fought bravely against the menace of drugs and opium in the area almost nipping the networks in the bud, ZPM Khachang Maio reiterated that the menace needs to be fought in close coordination with the authorities of neighbouring State of Assam.
''We are ready to provide counselling to the addicts and support them in their educational cause also if needed with whatever system the Army have to rehabilitate the habitual offender for their better tomorrow,'' said Army official Tushar Sinha.
It may be reiterated here that along with various government agencies working tirelessly against the peddling, circulating and consuming of various form of contraband in Bordumsa area, the women organisation had made a breakthrough earlier in July leading to the arrest of four youths along with contraband substances.
