ITANAGAR: Anto Rukbo, professionally a teacher, has announced to form a political party with the prime objective to bring reforms in the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) and repeal the contentious Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 2014 (APUAPA).

Addressing the media at the press club here on Friday, Rukbo said that the public of the state is frustrated over the repeated scams in the state commission. He said there were only two options for him to fight for the rights of the people of the state: the first was to form an insurgency group, and the second was to form a political party.

Opting for the second, Rukbo said that the power to bring reforms to the commission and repeal the APUAPA is only possible through political power and determination. However, the members of the new party are yet to be constituted and named.

Hence, the new party will be filling up its leaders in the entire 60 assembly constituency seats in the ensuing general assembly election in 2024. Given the power in the state, Rukbo also said that his party will resolve the matter within 3 months, as well as other public-related issues.

"We are organising a public meeting on June 3, wherein suggestions will be taken from every single person for the nomenclature of the party. Thereafter, the best name will be announced. Subsequently, the members of the party will be announced," he said.

He said the present BJP-led state government has only resolved 4 points of the 13-point charter of demands placed by the Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee (PAJSC) in regard to the recent APPSC cash-for-job scam, which is not satisfactory. Likewise, the recent detention of the public during the 72-hour ICR bandh called by the state police under APUAPA is a violation of human rights.

"Surprisingly, none of the other political parties like PPA, NPP, AAP, etc. in the state is capable of resolving the burning issues prevailing in the state," he said, also claiming that a few political parties had approached him to join them.

Rukbo said that he and a few members recently visited the state election office to gather information on the procedure for forming a new political party. As of now, the party with no name is being headed by Rukbo as the interim president and other interim members.
