Kingpin, associate nabbed; drugs from Assam sold in Arunachal; Huge cache of heroin, Indian and Chinese currency, besides other items seized
ITANAGAR: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Arunachal Pradesh has arrested two persons with respect to the recent recovery of a huge cache of contraband psychotropic substance.
Commercial quantity of heroin weighing 269 gram valued at Rs 53 lakhs, cash of Rs 6.4 lakh, and 569 yuan (Chinese currency), a currency-counting machine, a laptop, four phones, one DVR connected to three CCTVs in the house where the two persons were staying and a Hyundai I20 car bearing registration no. AS07M8922 were seized in this connection.
The action was taken by the team on the basis of intelligence received from secret input about probable movements of the heroin kingpin JitenBiswas. After developing the information for two weeks, an operation was conducted by the SIT team.
The two accused -- Jiten Biwas and Uttam Nath -- were apprehended from Kimin Circle, Papum Pare on March 3 and are under police custody for six days. The kingpin is wanted by the police of several districts in Assam and units of Arunachal Pradesh. He is involved in two more cases registered in both States.
The arrested persons have been identified as JitenBiswas, 33 years old and son of RashamoyBiswas, resident of village Parwatipur under Laluk Police Station in North Lakhimpur district of Assam. His associate -- Uttam Nath, 27 years old is the son of Tonu Nath, a resident of village Jajapur Anizara Para under Sootea Police Station in Biswanath district of Assam.
Speaking to reporters, SP SIT (Crime) Rohit Rajbir Singh said that the kingpin plays a pivotal role in introducing contraband into the State.
With his arrest, the Police hopes to control the major access of heroin transmission from Assam to Arunachal Pradesh. "This is one of the biggest achievements by the State Police. A lot of hard work was put in by the SIT team," he added. Further investigation in connection with the case is underway, and an FIR No. 01/2021 u/s 22(c)/27(a)/27-A NDPS Act is registered at PS Crime Branch, Itanagar, informed SP SIT (Crime). "During the investigation, we will try to bring out the main source of the banned substances and the middlemen involved so many more arrests to be made in the case", he added. The operation was led by SP SIT (Crime) RohitRajbir Singh, assisted by 0C/SIT Inspector NgilyangLali and multiple teams.
