ZIRO: The Apatani Students' Union (ASU) made surprise visits to various shops in the district to check price hike in essential commodities and also create awareness among them following numerous complaints by the public. The surprise checking was conducted in Ziro and Hapoli area of the district for three days from May 6 last.
During their checking, the students union served the shopkeepers with the price list of commodities served by the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) and district administration. ASU even warned the shopkeepers not to charge extra price in any commodities above the framed price by APMC and district administration.
"The union urged upon the shopkeepers to maintain the specific rate as issued by the concerned department unless there is any other order for further modification," ASU said in a statement, adding the checking was done following standard operating procedures issued by district administration.
The union also appealed to the public to contact the Inspector of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs (LMCA) for any complaints.
