APPSC cash-for-job scam: Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee to stage dharna against CBI

ITANAGAR: The Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee (PAJSC) said that a dharna will be held on May 6 against the CBI, following the delay in bringing a satisfactory conclusion to the APPSC cash-for-job scam case despite months of investigation.

Besides, the committee also appealed to the chief of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to set up camp in the state capital, Itanagar. It also condemned the recent notification issued by the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board (APSSB) regarding the non-issuance of information about the examination.

Addressing the media at the press club here on Tuesday, PAJSC member Techi Rana said that months had passed but there was no progress and no fresh outcome in the APPSC cash-for-job scam case investigated by the CBI. Moreover, the chargesheet filed against one Taket Jerang, Jobom Chang Mengu, and Obur Jerang by the CBI is also not satisfactory.

He said Jobom Chang Mengu, who served as the broker in APPSC (AE-Civil) question paper leakage case has been charge-sheeted for ‘forgery’, which is very concerning for the committee. Likewise, despite numerous numbers of arrests of government officials, the CBI to date has only filed a chargesheet against Taket Jerang and Obur Jerang.

“We feel that the CBI and the state government are not at all interested in punishing the culprits involved in the scam. Time and again the aspirants have been providing inputs to the CBI but still, there is no new development in the case,” he said, hoping that the agency will come up with a satisfactory conclusion to the matter and segregate the entire case.

Rana also informed that the committee will continue the protest at the CBI office premise if their voices are not being responded to by the state government. While welcoming the Arunachal Pradesh Public Examination (Measures for Prevention of Unfair Means in Recruitment) Bill, placed during the cabinet meeting, Rana said the bill has been vaguely drafted. The points in the bill could have been better if the inputs from the committee, as well as the aspirants, were incorporated.

“We hope the state government will seek suggestions for the inputs in the bill from us. We have the prescribed blueprints for the points to be included in the bill, which is almost on the verge of completion. Therefore, we appeal to the state government to respond to our request,” he added.

Meanwhile, another PAJSC member, Hage Butung said that the CBI is setting up its office at Itanagar. Therefore, to minimize the financial issues as well as security concerns of the complainants, who are mostly aspirants, the ED should also set up camp in the state capital, Itanagar. The PAJSC also said that the committee is not satisfied with the police investigation of the mysterious death of Tumi Gangkak. Despite the issuance of clean chit by the SIT and SIC of state police, the present investigating team is accusing the deceased of corruption and other charges.

The committee further added that the entire allegations against the deceased are futile and the state police should refrain from diverting the case from murder to suicide.
