APSCW Conducted Legal Awareness Workshop in Tawang District

Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) on Friday conducted a day-long legal awareness workshop at Jang in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh where various women issues were discussed. The meeting witnessed participation from NGOs, heads of departments and citizens, an official communique informed here. APSCW Chairperson Radhilu Chai Techi in her address dwelt on various issues relating to women. She also interacted with the women participants regarding the queries and issues they faced.

Commission’s vice chairperson H Tawsik in her address, encouraged the women participants to be aware of their rights and to actively participate in the local government bodies.

Jang additional deputy commissioner Lobsang Wangchu Bapu addressing the workshop highlighted the issues related to women that needs to be addressed, while APSCW representative Techi Hunmai highlighted the powers and functions of the Commission and spoke at length regarding various issues relating to women and children.

Legal advisor of the commission Karmu Chotten deliberated on need for registration of marriages and law relating to women.

Tawang Superintendent of Police (SP) SS Kalsi in his address dwelt at length on the POCSCO Act, which need to be implemented properly and also the need for better awareness.

Jang community health center’s sub divisional medical officer Dr Rinchen Neema highlighted the issues relating to breast cancer, menstrual hygiene and cervical cancer. He reiterated the need for better campaign on this issue.

Various topics like Prevention of Women from Domestic Violence Act were also taken up by APSWC member Likha Joya, the communique said.

The members of the APSCW would interact with the NGOs, heads of departments and the public tomorrow at Tawang, the communique added.
