ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh Women's Welfare Society (APWWS) has expressed concern over the escalating number of child sexual assault cases within the state, with the involvement of individuals in positions of power. The woman's body in a statement referred to a recent case allegedly involving a professor of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), accused of sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl. The members of the APWWS met the victim's parents last Thursday and offered support and advocacy. "Child sexual assault cases have a devastating impact on children and their families, leading to severe and lasting psychological trauma," the APWWS said while commending the swift action taken by the local police in apprehending the accused.

It urged the police to conduct a comprehensive investigation to ensure there are no oversights or gaps in the process. In addition to the immediate action required, the APWWS called upon the Arunachal Pradesh state government to expedite the establishment of the new Arunachal Pradesh Commission for the Protection of Child Rights.
