ITANAGAR: The Arunachal against Corruption (AAC) in a representation submitted to the Chief Minister Pema Khandu has appealed for the revocation of the detention order issued by the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) district administration and accordingly release of the detainees.
Addressing the media at the press club on Thursday, AAC Convenor Spokesperson Birendra Tallang said that the entire group of people arrested and detained by the state police during the 72-hour bandh call is not terrorists or involved in any criminal activities. Moreover, most of them are not aware of the APUAPA, and hence they should be released immediately.
He said the detention made during the bandh call was purely a preventive measure and required no arrest. Also, there was no public property damage or any harm to the public during the three-day bandh call. “The APUAP Act is draconian and can be seen as a law that is used to harass innocent people and suppress the voice of people against corruption prevailing in the state,” he said.
Further, Tallang claimed that most of the arrested people were unaware of the APUAPA and other laws. Hence, this does not build a reasonable ground to book them under various IPC sections and under the unlawful act. The organization appealed to the state government to immediately revoke the detention order, release the entire arrested or detained population, and bring an amicable solution to the APPSC paper leakage scam.
