Arunachal Against Corruption moves President against CM Pema Khandu

NEW DELHI: After almost two months of wait and dharna in the national capital, the Arunachal Against Corruption (AAC) team led by its chairperson Toko Sheetal and president Tame Tubin on Tuesday submitted its representation to the President of India, demanding investigations by the CBI, ED and Economic Offence Wing (EOW) against Chief Minister Pema Khandu.

In its representation, AAC stated that the organization is born out of huge frustration and anger accumulated among the various sections of society, particularly the educated unemployed youth, against the blatant financial misappropriation of public funds, glaring nepotism, and Constitutional impropriety by Chief Minister Pema Khandu.

Though Khandu claims 'Zero Tolerance' towards corruption, but he has been selective in his action, and mostly ends up shielding the criminals who are deeply embedded in the system since the Congress-ruled period. To the public, it appears that he is on a road trip to the interior border areas to inspect road projects, but it is an open secret in Arunachal Pradesh that Pema Khandu is the kingpin of the syndicate that controls all the major road projects worth more than Rs 1,000 crore, claimed the AAC in its representation.

Further, AAC also stated that many letters and memorandums with genuine public grievances have already been sent to the office of the PMO from time to time by various civil society organizations without any response to date.

Rather, the complainants are rubbished away to fight it out through expensive court battles. Sustaining a long legal battle in the court against the autocratic and corrupt Pema Khandu is too expensive and simply unaffordable for any sincere individual or organization, the AAC stated.

"Finding all the avenues of fighting against the misrule and misdeeds of the CM of the State closed and futile, the AAC was left with no alternative but to report the matter to you in New Delhi. We, the volunteers of AAC organized 'Delhi Chalo Padyatra' after 28 days of dharna in Itanagar, to seek your intervention to deploy the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED), and Economic Offence Wing (EOW)," the AAC stated in its representation to the President of India.

"The ED and EoW should investigate the money trails on how thousands of crores of rupees from Centrally-sponsored schemes have either been misappropriated or siphoned off or diverted. All the relevant documents of misappropriation and nepotism against Pema Khandu are attached herewith as 'Annexures' (True and Certified Copies) for favourable perusal and necessary action," stated AAC in the representation.
