ITANAGAR: The Congress in Arunachal Pradesh criticised the Pema Khandu government over the recent appointments of advisors to Chief Minister and Cabinet Ministers, and demanded an explanation in this regard.

Claiming that the State's financial health is in a critical condition, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) general secretary Chera Taya alleged that the government instead of addressing the burning issues of the people, is busy pleasing a few chosen persons by appointing so many Advisors, Chairmen, Vice Chairmen and members in the board of directors of various PSUs."

"With all these adversities and challenges, the Pema Khandu-led BJP government is engaged in the adjustment of a large number of BJP workers in different departments which is uncalled for," said Taya.

"The State government has to answer how this illegitimate exercise will rescue the State from its financial burden. How productive are these appointments during this time of crisis?" he posed.

Taya added that "there are no compensations to all those who lost either their business, livelihood or their job due to unplanned nationwide lockdown for COVID-19 in spite of 30 per cent deduction of salaries of MPs and MLAs."

The APCC also expressed concern over the pathetic condition of the roads in Itanagar and Naharlagun and the state as a whole and irregular power supply and drinking water supply in urban and rural areas of the State.

Raising question over the 'huge financial liability' that would be incurred after the appointments, the party also sought to know how many new economic packages have been given to Arunachal by the Central government so far and what remedial measures have been taken by the State government to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. It may be mentioned that Khandu had categorically stated that 22 MLAs appointed as advisors to Cabinet Ministers shall not be entitled to any emoluments, remuneration, perks and facilities.
