ITANAGAR: Fifty more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, pushing the virus tally in the State to 63,940, a senior Health Department official said here on Saturday.

The death toll in the State rose to 294 after a person succumbed to the infection on Thursday, the official said.

The 72-year-old man from Capital Complex Region died at a health facility here, due to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome with Covid Pneumonia, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

Of the fresh 50 cases, nine were reported from the Capital Complex Region, seven each from East Siang and Lower Subansiri, six from West Kameng, four each from Changlang and Longding and three from Lohit, he said.

As many as 62,796 people have recuperated from the disease in the frontier State so far including, including 177 on Friday, the SSO said.

Arunachal Pradesh currently has 850 active COVID-19 cases, the SSO said.

The recovery rate among patients marginally improved to 98.21 per cent from 98.01 per cent the previous day, he said.

Among the fresh cases, 44 were detected through rapid antigen test and three each through RT-PCR and TrueNAT methods Jampa said, adding that 24 of them have developed COVID-19 symptoms.

The Capital Complex Region, comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas, has the highest number of active cases at 208, followed by Lower Subansiri at 169, Tawang (68), West Kameng (58) and Lohit at 51 cases.

A total of 12,54,042 samples have been tested for the infection in the State so far, including 688 on Friday, Jampa said, adding that the positivity rate dipped to 7.26 per cent from 7.74 per cent the previous day.

State Immunization Officer (SSO) Dr Dimong Padung said as many as 16,05,413 people have been inoculated with COVID-19 vaccines so far.

At least 62,020 beneficiaries in the age group of 15-18 years have been vaccinated and 20,446 senior citizens received the booster jab.
