ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Thursday urged the civil servants of the State to work with 'vision and passion', saying that the success of Government policies and interventions largely depends on the civil servants.

Addressing the Government officers on National Civil Service Day here, Mein, while remembering all the past and current civil servants of the State for their remarkable contribution towards the progress made by the State, said, "We must leave a legacy for the future generation."

Speaking on this year's Civil Service Day celebration theme 'Vision 2047 for Arunachal Pradesh', he called for brainstorming sessions to visualize how officials would like to see Aruanchal Pradesh in the year 2047, that is 25 years from now, and after 100 years of India's Independence.

He spoke on key strengths of the State which, according to him, are agriculture and allied activities, tourism, hydro-power and natural resources.

"If we focus on these four areas, we will emerge as a major economic hub for the nation," Chowna Mein said.

The Deputy Chief Minister further stated that the State's cultural diversity is as diverse as its biodiversity and Arunachal Pradesh could be called as the 'land of festivals' and urged the officials to transform these festivals into major tourist attractions.

Citing that many feared about the indigenous culture being threatened by invasion of outside culture, Mein said, "We must go with modernity but at the same time we must also be traditionalists."

He called for a serious thinking and correction of the tribal lists of the State, which are ambiguous, in the forthcoming census.

Mein also spoke on development of border areas at par with the foothills and to channelize youthful energy in right direction by nurturing and building them up by providing appropriate skills and create livelihood opportunities.

He emphasized on capacity building of civil servants through training and to expedite the pace of taking decisions and called for finding ways and means to make developmental initiatives sustainable and to provide support to the emerging small enterprises across the state.
