ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Monday put forth the views of his State with regards to the modalities of funding the shortfall in compensation cess. Participating in the deliberation of the 42nd GST Council meeting chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, through video conference, Mein fully supported the proposal put forth by the Centre; and also accepted the option for borrowing funds, to meet the shortfall of compensation cess.

Arunachal Pradesh has not been eligible for GST compensation, as the GST collections of the State have steadily been above the threshold of protected revenue.

After the GST Council meeting, the Deputy Chief Minister gave direction to the Departments of Tax & Excise and Narcotics to further increase their efforts and augment the State tax collection, an official communiqué informed here.
