GUWAHATI : Tawang festival is a three days fest with varied traditional activities and events. It is home for several tribes and the major tribal community is Monpas. The local tribes welcome tourists with humble respect and welcome wishes in their culture.
This three-day festival will be celebrated every year by the Tourism Department of Arunachal Pradesh and this year 2019 dates are 29th – 31st October.
The eyecatching attractions and shows that take place in the festival are Dance of Yak, tribal participation with various dances and traditional rituals, traditional monastic dances, street performances, the traditional parade, Buddhist religious functions, and AJI-LHAMU DANCE is the main attraction of the festival.
Tawang Deputy Commissioner Lobsang Tsering on Wednesday convened a review meeting with hoteliers, taxi operators and representatives of Dingsum Kharsaneng area to discuss on the preparations for proposed village tourism festival on October 30 on the sidelines of the Tawang Festival.
Tawang Festival Director Tsetan Chombay in his deliberation stated that the organizing committee has been trying to engage maximum unemployed youths and villagers in village tourism programme.
“We are trying to connect our beautiful villages, heritage sites and historical places with tourists and shall showcase our traditional way of living in village, Monpa delicacies, art games and sports to tourists and in this regard many popular bloggers have also been invited in this Tawang festival to popularize the unexplored beauty of Tawang tourism,” Chombay said.
In this festival one can experience the traditional values of Buddhists. The festival is a platform for many religious events, traditional and tribal dances, exhibition of crafts and arts by the tribes, hand-loom products, photography exhibition, paintings, etc.
