ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (retd) Dr BD Mishra has stressed on need for reviewing the environmental impact assessment saying that a few important projects, particularly roads in the State are delayed due to guidelines for environmental protection and conservation goals.

During a meeting with Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar on the sideline of the 50th conference of the Governors in New Delhi yesterday, the governor briefed the minister regarding the restoration of Miao-Vijoynagar Road in Changlang district and its handing over to BRO for maintenance.

The Governor said that the tribal communities of the, since times immemorial have always beautifully co-existed with the natural environment.

“Balancing the goals of development with those of environmental protection and conservation is done with the development exigencies of society,” he said.

The Governor impressed upon the minister for the need of preserving the treasured nature’s gift of flora and fauna in the state and at the same time assist in process of development, an official communiqué informed here on Monday.

He informed that Arunachal Pradesh has a forest cover of about 82 per cent of total geographical area of 83,740 sq Kms, which is about 66,964 sq km, second only to Madhya Pradesh.

“It has 13 wildlife sanctuaries and national parks including Namdapha National Parks & Tiger Project in Changlang district,” the Governor said while requesting for special projects for wildlife protection.

The Governor requested the minister for assigning a team of wildlife preservation trainers to train the wildlife protection personnel to which Javedkar agreed.
