Itanagar: Calling a spade a spade, Governor Brig (retd) BD Mishra on Wednesday took a dig at doctors of Naharlagun-based Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciecnes (TRIHMS) for dereliction of duty, particularly for not founding them in their seats on time.

“To tackle such a situation in Raj Bhawan dispensary here, I engaged a jawan to record the attendance of all staff members,” Dr Mishra said in his address to centenary celebration of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) by its Arunachal Pradesh branch at state DK Convention centre here.

On whether the blood separation unit equipment, lying idle in TRIMHS as seen by him during inspection, have been installed or not, he asked and wondered if it is his duty to ensure work culture or the State Government, particularly Health & Family Welfare secretary P Parthiban, who was present on the occasion.

“The Red Cross idea was born in 1859, when young Swiss man Henry Dunant, was shocked to see some 40,000 men lay dead or dying in Solferino, Italy due to imperial Austria-Franco-Sardinian alliance armies’ bloody battle and the wounded were lacking medical attention. This got global recognition later and was born in India in 1920,” Dr Mishra said.

He recalled that while leading Indian Peace Keeping Force to Sri Lanka in 1987 he saw the IRCS volunteers working for the suffering humanity, adding the Red Cross did some marvelous work during World War-I & II to save many lives.

“Natural disasters cause huge losses to the humanity which calls for proactive role of voluntary organizations, like APIRCSB,” he said, adding one should act to prove capability instead of complaining for deficits and cited the example of a Major General who without any wherewithal had developed the best mechanized Army division.
